Trim, Peeking Into the Past, Summer Fun and Bye Bye Comfort......

I have been so busy enjoying my summer, and working on the house, that blogging fell to the wayside. The hardest part has been trying to pull ALOT of projects together over such a small window of time. Very soon Daniel will start nursing school and a new life schedule will begin for us. Miss Ava has enjoyed her summer and has learned to count from 1-10. She has enjoyed picnics and sidewalk chalk, blowing bubbles and swimming. My older daughters have been lounging at my moms house, coming home here and there, I miss them often, but I can recall being a kid and staying with my Aunt Marie and Uncle Charlie and swimming in their huge inground pool with my cousin from morning to night.....I never wanted to come home, I never wanted school to start up again. I just wanted to swim and ride my bike.
In addition to all the summer fun/work I have to note that Miss Ava has stopped nursing. It was pretty easy to stop physically, but emotionally I had a few moments where I felt kind of like "oh, I'm not her comfort anymore". It was sad, but then she was able to go to Nonnas' house with Daddy for the whole weekend and that makes her happy. Now she gets to sleep without any help from me, besides some cuddling.

The past few weekends I have been painting, mostly baseboards, windows, all the trim that needed a nice coat of white paint. After finishing up the two main rooms downstairs I figured I'd start in the front hallway too. I hadn't done anything to this area of the house. The walls are painted an awful faux finish over wallpaper. While painting the trim I noticed the wallpaper coming loose, I ripped a section off and found the old beauty in the pic above. I love that beneath the "old" wallpaper that I will eventually scrape off, is ancient wallpaper. I wish I could save it somehow. The print is almost oriental, and it looks (from that small section), to be quite beautiful. I thought, after having scraped much of the wallpaper in the house, that I would find something on the bare walls....a name, some old scribbles, a date.....but all I found were numbers, measurements for where the wallpaper seams would be. That was it. I was a little disappointed, but I am holding out hope that I will find something on the walls yet to be stripped.
