Meant For Me

It's been a busy week here. I started working in the yard before it gets too hot to comfortably do so. I caught up on alot of things that needed to get done but somehow I never get around to doing. I also have been a thrifting maniac. Mostly clothing, save for this one item that I fell in love with.
Did you ever feel drawn to an item while shopping? I have. Mostly it's antique furniture. And mostly I can't afford it:-) Today while looking through the blankets at the Sal Val I came across an old quilt. I pulled it off the rack and inspected it. It was pretty faded and soft. Just like an old quilt should be. Then I started noticing the details. The quilt was patched here and there, noticeably so, some patches were shaped like hearts. A few patches were made up of bath towels, some areas were zig-zagged with hot pink and black thread (!!??). The towel patches were vintage looking too, I remember seeing the very same towels in an older relatives home as a child. It was really a crazy quilt!
I returned it to the hanger to walk around and think about it. I normally do this. I have lost some great treasures this way. You would think I learn, but....Anyway, I went back for it 5 minutes later. I needed that quilt! For ages I had been keeping my eye out for something akin to a picnic blanket for the family to use. This would be a GREAT picnic blanket. The best ever! Four dollars and ninety nine cents later later it was mine. My daughter Colette thought it was charming, too. She has pretty good taste for an 11 year old, I think it was the pink and black zig zag that won her over.
So here it is, my "crazy" quilt.....And just for the record, I had wanted to do a beautiful photo shoot with it sprawled out on the grass, but it rained all day long and I couldn't wait to get pictures of my new treasure!

I am currently obsessed with a blog called Thrifty Decor Chick. It's a well-written, chock-full-of-inspiration blog masterpiece. Sarah, who authors it, has a great way with words, and her creativity is inspiring. I've been pouring over her posts whenever I get a chance to sit down at the computer.
In addition to plopping in front of the computer and reading blogs, I've been busy cleaning out closets and selling Miss Ava's outgrown clothes on Ebay. It's a long process. I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I'd rather be sewing. Or outside running around with the kids. A few days ago our big, old lilac tree started blooming.

The flowers are so heavily scented that I could smell them the moment I stepped out the back door. Considering the fact that the tree is near the back of our large yard, that's quite a feat!

The lilacs blooming means it's soon time for yard sales and picnics. Hanging laundry outside to dry. Swimming. SUNSHINE. I can't wait.

I will be taking a little break over the next few days to concentrate on family stuff. I'll blog again soon...........
